I completely agree about the holidays. I still hate most of them with the exception of Thanksgiving. I like that they are times to spend with family but I honestly am not into them and never will be.

A sense of displacement--holidays and what not
by sd-7 insome days it's a sense of almost temporal displacement--perhaps the belief that someone went back in time and changed something, so that this moment is not what it was meant to be.
other days it's a literal displacement, waking up alone, since i move too much in my sleep and it became clear that i should sleep separately from my wife.
anyway, i feel this odd, hollow sense of sadness.

Generation Teaching - Everyone is speechless?
by Red Piller inmaybe the effect of this change is bigger than realized?
in 1995, it was discussed (positively) by everybody, during the week we studied the wt.
one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

I don't know where you're from but the 1995 change was HUGE!! What do you mean, it was accepted positively? Even longtime dubs who remained in expressed their dismay with the change.

Making the final break - stopping attending the Memorial
by Eiben Scrood ini started my fade in 2004 and completely quit regular attendance in 2005. i have, however, gone to all the memorials since.
i still consider myself christian and felt it was a somewhat decent way of respecting the sacrifice.. i am thinking of not going this year.. i am generally disgusted at what the memorial observation actually entails.
there is almost no talk about what jesus went through on that day or even the tremendous sacrifice involved and the love that motivated it.

I got far more appeciation for the ransom sacrifice after watching The Passion of the Christ than from any Memorial I've attended.
I have so much hate and anger for this religion that I guess I just can't stomach attending anymore.

I am generally disgusted at what the Memorial observation actually entails. There is almost no talk about what Jesus went through on that day or even the tremendous sacrifice involved and the love that motivated it. It is instead mainly a recruiting session to get new people in and faders back. It is filled with drilling into attendees' heads that they're not to partake. It is largely a joyless, mechanical exercise.
Some former friends are still friendly but less and less every year. There are more and more icy stares from the mind-numbed regulars.
The cherry on the top for me though, and what prompted serious thought of not going was the new overlapping generation teaching. This goes so far above and beyond anything before IMO. It's the equivalent of the KoolAid being poured for me. It is so completely and insanely nonsensical that I started asking myself: Do I want anything to do with this organization anymore? How can rational, at least semi-intelligent people swallowing this new teaching? It has been an epiphany of sorts for me. If this didn't wake people up, nothing will.
Have others here followed a similar progression of continuing to go to Memorials for some time but then finally stopping that as well?

DMCA Complaint from The WatchTower for links to KS-10 'Shepherding' book
by Simon inyes, that's right, they really do not like people being able to read that book so they wanted links to it removed (it appears they have also been going after the hosts of the content itself as well).. unfortunately, i had to removed the links (which were dead anyway when i checked) and i'd ask that people don't re-post them (sorry).
i'm sure there are lots of alternative ways for those with the information to get it to those who need it.. here are the discussions on the book:.

djeggnog - are you trying to say that people who have already downloaded the elders' manual for their personal use are presently in danger of legal action?!! I find that to be highly unlikely.

The Society, having lost its younger generation, now appears to be doing its darndest to lose the older ones as well
by sir82 infrom all the "annual general meeting" notes floating around, one quotation stands out in particular:.
many older ones already are telling the younger ones how they regretted not getting an education, pursuing a lucrative career, saving up money or not having a retirement plan.
the sad truth is that such ones are like the murmurers of israel when coming out of egypt.. what does this remark tell us?.
-

That remark is particularly callous even by Watchtower standards. It still blows my mind that they can bullshit the rank and file over and over again and get away with it. Aside from the apology Ray Franz managed to get into the 1980 Watchtower about 1975, they never apologize nor own up to the terrible damage they have caused people.

How fitting and appropriate it would be if God were to bring an end to this wicked system on the 100 year anniversary of Kingdom rule!

WTBTS 2010 AGM notes (GAG alert)
by billyboy in<!-- @page { margin: 2cm } p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } --> .
here are some highlights from the 2010 annual meeting;.
branch overseers/representatives from around the world gave greetings from their branch and gave some encouraging experiences from the field.

Well, at least it's encouraging that reports are getting back to the GB that many older ones are complaining about their dire financial straits after believing the bullshit served to them for decades. For them to actually mention this, it must be quite a trend.
What will the reaction be? Will listeners cower in fear of this reproof or will they wake up to the voice in their heads surely telling them this is pure culttalk?
